Interview Summary
Lynn Juhl served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malaysia, from 1967 through 1969, in the Education Program. After graduating from Concordia College in Minnesota, Lynn applied to both the Air Force and Peace Corps. In the end he chose Peace Corps. He declined an invitation to Ethiopia, and was then invited to serve with Malaysia group 18. Training was conducted in Hawaii. It included language, culture, and teaching. Lynn was assigned to the town of Kroh (currently Pengkalan Hulu) near the Thai border, to teach math. He shared quarters on the school compound with local teachers. In addition to teaching, Lynn built a running track and set up a school library. Together with a PCV in Thailand he organized cross-border athletic competitions. During school breaks he traveled to Thailand, Indonesia, Bali, and Cambodia. After completing service, he worked as a Peace Corps recruiter in Mississippi. Lynn remains in contact with many friends and former students in Malaysia and has made return trips. He is a board member of Friends of Malaysia, and member of the Malaysia-America Society.Interview Accession
