Interview Summary
Robert McDowell came to the University of Kentucky in 1930 and graduated in 1935. In this interview he discusses majoring in engineering, and describes some of his favorite professors and music instructors at the university. He talks about his extracurricular activities, including his participation in the university band, as well as honorary organizations and fraternities. He talks about the atmosphere at the university, particularly during the Great Depression.McDowell talks about his career after graduation, including beginning his own business, McDowell Company. He talks about receiving an honorary doctorate from the university, as well as his position as a University Fellow. He discusses the difficulty some students have with their college courses due to a lack of preparation in high school.
