Interview Summary
Clay is the owner of Three Chimneys Farm and a leading figure in the Thoroughbred industry. His father, Albert Clay, was an influential tobacco businessman, former University of Kentucky trustee, and a Thoroughbred owner and breeder. In this first interview, Clay shares stories of growing up in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and discusses his father's career. He reflects on his education, military service, and his early experiences working with horses. He also discusses building the fertilizer company Top Yield in partnership with his father and establishing Three Chimneys Farm in 1973. Clay talks about the farm's early years, initial clients including Peter Burrell, and the business values that define Three Chimneys.Interview Accession
