Project Summary

In this series of interviews, John Lair discusses life and entertainment in Renfro Valley. John Lair was born in 1894 in Livingston, Kentucky. He founded the Renfro Valley Barn Dance and helped establish Renfro Valley as the Country Music capital of Kentucky. Topics discussed include his reflections on his early life, doubts his neighbors had about whether or not he would succeed in his field of country and folk music, and reflections on his career.
