Interview Summary
John Sherman Cooper uses this interview to talk about his experiences during 1965 as a United States Senator from Kentucky. He talks about some of the work he did to help Kentucky, including the Appalachian Regional Development Act. He also talks about some of the committees he served on, including the Rules Committee, and what he accomplished with them. He mentions what his relationships were like with the U.S. presidents he served under and with his fellow senators. He also talks about certain scandals such as the Bobby Baker scandal and the Santo Domingo Crisis that he dealt with. Finally, he talks about major issues and bills during 1965 including the Vietnam War, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and the Voting Rights Bill.Interview Accession
