Karem (House 1972-1974, 34th district; Senate 1976-2004, 35th district; Democrat) begins the interview by discussing his youth and the Lebanese community in which he grew up. He details campaign strategies used to secure his first public office, his expectations of public service and the strengthening of legislative power during his tenure in office.
