Interview Summary

Majid Ali Siddiq, a former engineering student at Aligarh Muslim University, begins the interview by talking of his engineering career, as well as the state of India's transport and infrastructural systems. Following this, an overview of Siddiqi's education and an elaboration upon his early career are provided. Life in the interviewee's hometown of Gorakhpur before the partition is recalled, along with an assessment of Hindu-Muslim relations and their standards of living today. Then, Siddiqi shares his initial impressions of Aligarh Muslim University. The role of Urdu in India (and Aligarh) is pondered, accompanied by a summary of the interviewee's interests and hobbies. Next, Siddiqi's childhood and education are revisited. A comparison of the engineering programs at Aligarh and Roorkee Institute of Technology is also given. Subsequently, a comparison of Aligarh to other Indian universities as a whole is postulated. Changes to Aligarh Muslim University in recent decades are examined, paired with the interviewee's university life in general. To conclude the interview, Siddiqi details his field hockey career at Aligarh.
