Interview Summary

This interview with Corbin (Ky.) resident James Collins begins with a discussion of his childhood during the Great Depression. He talks about when and where he was born and describes the difficulties of growing up in the 1930s. Collins discusses what he and his friends did for recreation and how his family obtained water and disposed of waste.
Next, Collins talks about how he currently disposes of his trash. He describes his involvement with Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE). Collins then moves on to talk about recycling programs available in his area. He talks about recycling materials to make other useful items, such as making old clothes into quilts. He then talks about how his family lit their home in the 1930s. Finally, Collins talks about environmental improvements in recent years and the effects that has had on local wildlife. He ends the interview by talking about the changes he has seen since he was a boy.
