served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier Saratoga; served as a gunner (40mm gun sections)-- saw action in the Marshall Islands and on mission to bomb Japan; discusses living conditions aboard ship-- violent storm in Indian Ocean-- hitting targets (air field and oil refineries) on Java; talks about mission to bomb Japan as part of Task Force 58 - shooting at Japanese airplanes-- kamikaze attacks-- experiences as a wounded soldier - amputation of leg-- voyage back to the United States
