Project: The Charles F. Riebe Great Onyx Job Corps Conservation Center Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Hal Garland was first employed as a clerk typist at the Great Onyx Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center (GOJCCC) and worked as a specialist in most of the administrative program activities related to procurement, property, supply, food service, and payroll during his time at the center. Prior to joining the center staff, he was employed by Mammoth Cave National Park in facility maintenance. He also assisted the Park Superintendent Paul Miller in the initial planning and public relations activities related to the establishment of the center.

Kenneth Theige was first employed as a recreation specialist, during his time at the center he worked as a teacher, athletic coach, and became the supervisor of the education and counseling program.
