Interview with Lucy Henegar, 1988
Project: Etowah (Tennessee) Historical Commission Oral History Project
Interview Summary
In this interview, Henegar, a long time Etowah resident, reflects on her upbringing in McMinn County. Her parents had a farm and everyone in the family helped out with maintaining it. Henegar acquired an 8th grade education, and from there she went on to babysit for townspeople. For additional income, she and her mother would do laundry and ironing for various Etowah residents. Henegar also talks about how they preserved their foods, what her educational experience was like, and her brothers' employment at the railroad.[This interview contains multiple, brief periods of silence throughout the voice recording. There are also a few abrupt stops in recording, as per the nature of voice recorders in that day and time.]
