Interview Summary
Janet Tao is from a farm in the Alberta Province of Canada. She met and married Deh Tao of Shanghai, China in Michigan when they were both in school. She became a nurse and he, an engineer in kinematics. They moved to Lexington in 1959-1960 when he got a job with IBM and they built homes on Nantucket and in around 1964 on Overbrook Drive. Mr. Tao designed both homes. Janet has anecdotal tales of building and living on Overbrook Drive, shopping in downtown Lexington in the 1960s, her love of trees, and tutoring many children in the neighborhood in math. She also talks about growing up on a farm and working her way through school. Tao describes the differences between farm life in Canada and the southern gentility of Lexington. In addition, Tao also describes how she assists her neighbors as they age.Interview Accession
