Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Peter Stark served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 1990 through 1992 in the Small Business sector. Peter received a college degree in Business, and after his acceptance into the Peace Corps, he was sent to Santo Domingo for 12 weeks of language training, along with cross-cultural instruction and help preparing for his work assisting the remote community of El Bambu. There he aided local members of Amas de Casa in developing a small business venture. Later he helped write a grant to build a water tank for the community. He also worked with community members to build an aqueduct, providing running water to the village. His final contribution involved teaching men and women in the community how to build affordable, efficient, and long-lasting stoves for cooking, improving, among other things, the health and safety of the residents.
