Interview Summary
John Henry Harrison was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 19, 1925. Harrison joined the Marine Corps on June 19, 1943 when he was 18 years old. Harrison reached the rank of corporal while serving in Iwo Jima and Japan during World War II. During the Battle of Iwo Jima, Harrison was with the 3rd Battalion, 28th Marines, H Company. Harrison spent time on Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the atomic bombs were dropped. On May 21, 1946, Harrison was discharged from the military and he returned to Kentucky. Harrison attended the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky and held several jobs before eventually getting started in the health insurance industry.Interview Accession
