Interview Summary

Alex Rosenzweig, son of Jodi and Jonathan Rosenzweig, was born in Long Island, New York in the late 1990s. Attending grade school and high school in Half Hollow Hills School district, Alex practiced and studied Judaism throughout his childhood. His family identifies as conservative Jews and he describes Judaism as a focal point of his upbringing and family life. He discusses his decision to attend the University of Kentucky, and the adjustments he made in moving from New York to Kentucky to major in engineering in 2015. He describes Jewish student life on UK’s campus and his involvement in student organizations at the University of Kentucky. As a member of Hillel and a Jewish Heritage Fund for Excellence Scholar, Alex discusses his dedication to his religion and heritage as well as his participation in secular student life. He discusses the role his parents and grandparents played in fostering his Jewish identity as well as how moving to Kentucky shaped his identity. Additionally, he describes his love of mechanics and the automotive industry, his experiences interning for an engineering company called Metalsa in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and the ways he helped to found Sigma Pi Fraternity on UK’s campus.
