Interview Summary
Lauren Reynolds attended the University of Kentucky from 1998-2005. In this interview she discusses her family background and her childhood in Louisville, Kentucky. She talks about her early education, extracurricular activities, and her relationships with white and Black classmates. She talks about her family life, church involvement, and her parents' focus on community service. She talks about her decision to attend UK, and discusses the negative feedback she received from people who had attended UK about their experiences at the university. She talks about her initial experiences at UK, including freshman orientation and her overwhelming first day. She talks about student organizations she joined, as well as her involvement with community service in Lexington. She discusses race relations in Lexington, telling a story about receiving stares while shopping with a white friend. She talks about the lack of support from UK administrators and faculty for Black students and organizations. She talks about specific instances of discrimination she faced at UK.
