Interview with Bruce Denbo, December 14, 1977
Project: Robert Penn Warren Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Denbo describes some scandals at Louisiana State University, including one in which Robert Penn Warren was embroiled, along with the other Fugitive Agrarians. In general, Warren was soft-spoken, but he was a participant in the criticism of the literary old-guard, along with the other Agrarians at the Southern Review. This criticism continued, and members of the Southern Review would attack college deans and other officials. Eventually, the Southern Review was written out of the LSU budget after publishing criticisms of the college president, General Campbell Hodges.Interview Accession
