Interview Summary

Joshua Wirtschafter talks about his childhood in Lexington, Kentucky in the 1960's-1977, growing up in a liberal academic family. He shared memories of the social and political activism of his parents (Carol Lavenstein Wirtschafter and Jonathan Wirtschafter) during the Vietnam War period. He spoke about his own experiences with racism and antisemitism, freedom of activity as a child, participation in the early years of Camp Shalom, and he talks at length about the evolution of his relationship with Judaism and God as a child and adult.
