Interview Summary

In this interview Dr. Shelby Lewis, a professor of political science with a focus on Africa in development studies, discusses growing up in Louisiana. She describes attending a poor segregated public school and her undergraduate education at Southern College. Lewis discusses attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst to pursue a graduate degree on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. She describes traveling and working in Africa, studying and teaching, and eventually getting her PhD from the University of New Orleans. Lewis also discusses her service on committees and in various organizations.
