Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Kendall Medford served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 2017-2019, in the Education sector, focusing on primary school literacy promotion. After one month of cultural and language training in Santo Domingo and two months of job-specific training in El Cabreto, she was assigned to a large primary and secondary school in Jimani, the capital of the country’s Independencia province. During her two years there, she worked with school administrators, teachers, and guidance counselors to develop literacy and behavioral management programs. After her term in the Peace Corps, Kendall served as a Fulbright Scholar in Brazil. She has recently returned to the Dominican Republic to work on research projects analyzing language development in rural areas of the country, particularly those bordering Haiti. The interview discusses motivations for joining the Peace Corps, training, and experiences as a Volunteer.
