Interview Summary
Dr. Richard A. Hamilton served as a physician in the Navy, and was sent to Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Nagasaki. He describes the Battle of Iwo Jima, including the overwhelming number of casualties and the problem of battle fatigue. He also mentions Japanese planes' attacks on his flotilla and Japanese civilians' fear of Americans. He was in Tokyo Bay during the surrender ceremony, when the captain and executive officer of his ship were dismissed.Interview Accession
