Interview Summary
Colman McCarthy, the director of Center for Teaching Peace in Washington, D.C., discusses Merton status as a mythical figure. McCarthy describes Merton as an activist who rebelled against what people thought he should write about, and a "public monk" who communicated with the outside world. He discusses Merton's antiwar position while also delving into the "Just War" position of the Catholic Church and goes over Merton's legacy.Interview Accession
