Project: Frontier Nursing Service Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Sophia Howard was born in 1895 on Muncy's Creek. She tells of the wildness of the county at that time and how people managed to live by weaving their own wool and hauling flour from Middlesboro. She indicates that her father, who lived to be 112, was the first person to come to the area. Howard identifies her sister as a "granny woman" who delivered babies before the FNS was established.
