Interview Summary
Hiram Báez Andino served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras from 1986 to 1988, in Paraguay from 1991 to 1993, and as a Virtual Service Volunteer for Ecuador in 2023. Hiram is from Puerto Rico. He learned of Peace Corps when a friend gave him an application. Hiram’s first assignment was at a poor rural school in El Tular, outside of San Lorenzo. Hiram completed his service in Honduras, returned home, and after two years reapplied to Peace Corps. He was sent to Parguay, where he learned to speak Guaraní. He served as a teacher trainer at the Rural University for Educators in Caazapá. Upon completion of service he returned to Puerto Rico and continued his career in education. After retiring, Hiram wanted to serve again, and applied to the Peace Corps Virutal Service Progam. In that program worked with the Yellow Submarine Foundation in Ecuador to teach skills in Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL), and computer technology. He is a member of Amigos del Cuerpo de Paz de Puerto Rico, and participates in community service work with them.Interview Accession
