Project: In Their Own Words: UK Jewish Life Unveiled Oral History Project

Interview Summary

This interview, which occurred on April 5th, 2024, with Hailey discussed how she feels as a Jewish Student at the University of Kentucky both before and after the events of October 7th, 2023. Hailey, who grew up in Clevland Ohio discussed her experiences coming from a larger Jewish population and attending a Jewish elementary and middle school to the transition to Lexington, Kentucky, and a smaller Jewish community. Hailey discussed how close-knit the Jewish community at the University of Kentucky and her involvement with Hillel. She also discussed how the events of October 7th, which impacted her personally, did not impact the broader campus community as Judaism and Jewish culture are not commonly discussed on campus. We also discussed the role Jewish culture has on campus and in the Lexington community.
