Interview Summary
Amy Baker discusses her early work in substance abuse intervention, working with incarcerated populations in Frankfort in the 1990s. She discusses how the state was trying to deal with increasing levels of substance abuse, particularly opioid addiction when Oxycontin came on the market. She recalls that when she became the program coordinator for Lexington's Substance Abuse and Violence Intervention Program, the city was looking at how to implement programs to curb overdose deaths. One of these programs was the city's needle exchange program, which opened in 2015.Baker was the Program Coordinator for Lexington's Substance Abuse and Violence Intervention Program at the time of this interview.
