Interview Summary
Alice Impraim was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Namibia from August 2011 to November 2013. Alice Impraim was born in Ghana. She had Peace Corps Volunteers as teachers. She went to England for university education and immigrated to the United States with her husband in her twenties. She worked as a financial advisor before service in the Peace Corps. She had received a postcard about Peace Corps in retirement. Her Pre-Service Training in Okahandja, Namibia included a technical practicum advising local small business owners. Impraim was assigned to Rundu, the second largest city in Namibia. She advised a start-up bakery employing physically challenged employees. Impraim was able to act as a bridge between white and black Namibians in supporting the enterprise. She also advised various small businesses. Her hardest adjustment was coming from a female dominated to a male dominated culture. She encountered discrimination against people of color, women, and age in various instances.Interview Accession
