Interview Summary
Annette Lantos, wife of United States Representative Tom Lantos, tells her husband's story of survival during the Second World War: his escape from a concentration camp and return home to Budapest, Hungary, his correspondence with her, and his time living in Budapest under the protection of Raoul Wallenberg. Annette then narrates her family's escape from Hungary to Switzerland, their expulsion from Switzerland to France, her dangerous journey alone back to Switzerland, her return to Budapest after the war, and her and Tom's move to the United States.In the last portion of the interview, Tom Lantos describes some of his wartime experiences and their impact on his later humanitarian activities as a member of the House of Representatives.
