Interview Summary
In this interview, Cecil J. Sims, who served with Company D 192nd Tank Battalion in the Philippines, describes the bombing of Clark Field, a Japanese airplane shooting down American airplane, and the problems of being a cook. He talks about helping destroy equipment to prevent its capture and feelings on surrendering. Sims discusses meeting up with the Japanese, the death march to San Fernando, and compassion of the Filipino people. He also talks about his train voyage, march to Camp O'Donnell, and work details. Sims describes his hell ship voyage to Japan, experiences as a prisoner at Moji, and work details. In addition, he discusses watching American bombers bomb Japan, V-J Day, and impressions of war torn Nagasaki.Interview Accession
