Warren W. Rosenthal Oral History Project

Project Summary

This is a collection of interviews with Warren Rosenthal, focusing on his life and many achievements. Born in Paducah, Kentucky in 1923, Rosenthal discusses his childhood, family, and higher education at the Paducah Junior College and later the University of Kentucky. Rosenthal also served in the Army during World War II, and talks about his training and deployment to North Africa and India. Other topics include his marriage to Betty Markhoff, his involvement in Jerrico, Inc., Jerry's Restaurants, Fazoli's Italian Restaurant, and the foundation of the first Long John Silver's fast-food restaurant in 1969 in Lexington. Rosenthal also discusses his service as a member of the Board of the National and Kentucky Restaurant Associations, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Child Development Centers, and the Children's Advocacy Center. He was also heavily involved in St. Joseph's Hospital, the Kentucky Historical Society, and Shakertown, as well as President of the Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass.
