Interview Summary
Professor Roland of the University of Kentucky (UK) interviews former UK professor and financial advisor to the Albert B. Chandler gubernatorial administrations, Dr. James W. Martin. Martin discusses his experiences working in both Chandler gubernatorial administrations, in 1935 and 1955. Martin compares the two administrations and their ability to accomplish tasks, stay organized, and be effective. Martin discusses the behavioral changes which occurred to Chandler between the two administrations and its impact on the second administration. Martin briefly discusses his resignation from the second Chandler administration. He talks with Roland about Chandler's impact on Kentucky and its politics, as well as addresses rumors about Chandler's involvement in political scandal. Martin gives Roland an overall assessment of Chandler's political career. Finally, he talks about the Chandler family, particularly Chandler's wife, Mildred.Interview Accession
