Interview Summary

Mr. Townsend discusses his family history, his grandfather's influence upon Townsend's father, and the paternal influence of his father upon himself. He reminisces about his childhood in Alabama, family values and educational background. Mr. Townsend remarks on the importance of land ownership, the impact of segregation and discrimination, and the role of the church within the African American community. He recall his employment experience as a television reporter, and his work in the Mayor's office and in city government.
