Interview Summary

Paul Toussaint spoke regarding his background in transportation, specifically work as Connecticut and later Kentucky Division Administrator for the Federal Highway Administration, and his twelve years of service as Director of the Kentucky Transportation Center. His interview included his recollections of a wide variety of coordinated federal and state highway projects and programs, most notably the formation of the Advantage I-75 Program and Intelligent Transportation System initiatives in Kentucky. Toussaint focused on the expansion and evolution of transportation research in the Kentucky Transportation Center and notable projects the Center has conducted. He discussed how Kentucky Transportation Center projects and close working relationship with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have impacted the state and served as a model for other state research efforts. Other topics included the Academy for Community Transportation Innovation Program, the impact of motor carrier volumes on highways, as well as the Perm, Russia, Exchange Program.
