Interview Summary

A 1932 graduate of Douglas High School, Reverend Beverly is the pastor at Bethel Baptist Church and was the former pastor of First Baptist Church in Paris from 1953-1967. Beverly discusses the roles of First Baptist and Bethel Baptist in the civil rights movement including activism with voter registration, marches, and the integration of downtown lunch counters. The role of African American churches within the business community is also commented upon.
