Interview with Erin Taylor, February 9, 2023
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Erin Taylor served in Thailand, 2000-2002, working as an English teacher/trainer doing needs assessments and conducting skills workshops. Erin’s future husband was in her cohort; they stayed for a year in Phuket after COS. Training was in Chainat province where she lived with a host family preparing for a wedding celebration. Erin said all senses were always on alert because she was doing things she’d never done before. Erin’s permanent site was nearby in Uthaithani province. There she lived on her own in the capital. She spent two days a week at her mentor’s school and the remaining time planning trainings. She said a memorable moment was her Thai friends’ response to the 9-11 attack on the US. They brought her a tv so she could watch news coverage and expressed concern for her and her family. Erin said Thailand “is a culture of groups” and “a land of smiles.”Interview Accession
