Interview Summary

Dr. Kim Thompson, a physician in Lexington, Kentucky is interviewed by Reneé Collins for the I Am Diversity: Women Physicians of Color Oral History Project. In this interview, Dr. Thompson details her early childhood in the Bahamas and her educational career.

Dr. Thompson details hardships she faced while in school and how such experiences shaped her into the physician and mother she is today. Additionally, Dr. Thompson talks about three of her sons being diagnosed with autism and how it changed the view of autism that she had during medical school.

Dr. Thompson provides insight about the role diversity plays in the medical field, the challenges faced by underrepresented groups, and the importance of diversity in the medical field.
