Interview Summary

Dr. Herbert Riley was a Distinguished Professor and former Head of Botany at the University of Kentucky. In this interview, Riley talks at length about the environment at the University of Kentucky under several presidents, including McVey, Donovan, Dickey, and Oswald. He discusses the atmosphere at the university under each president, talks about their level of support for research and the faculty, and the university's finances during each era. He talks about issues he encountered as head of the botany department.

Riley compares the University of Kentucky to other universities including the University of Washington and Tulane University. He talks about how the addition of the medical center impacted the rest of the university.
