Smith D. Broadbent, Jr. discusses Kentucky Democratic Party politics during the 1930s and 1940s. He talks about his impressions of Happy Chandler, Earle Clements, Garrett Withers, and Harry Lee Waterfield. He discusses the political issues of the 1947 Kentucky gubernatorial campaign, including parimutuel betting at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds. He talks about his own role on the State Fair Board. He talks about state programs under Clements, including rural roads and rural electrification.
