Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Yanick Douyon served as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Liberia in 2016, Rwanda in 2017-2018, and Eastern Caribbean in 2019. Prior to these assignments she’d been a career educator. Training in Liberia was conducted in Kakata, and her assignment was in Owens Grove, near Harbel. Yanick’s job there was Teacher Training, and she also taught students herself. While there she started a Girls’ Club to help address gender inequity. In Rwanda, Yanick taught at the University of Rwanda, Busogo Campus, for one year. She extended for six months at a Teacher Training College in Zaza. Secondary projects included starting English groups at high schools, and tutoring groups the community in English. Her third assignment was in Eastern Caribbean, on the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. There she worked in a summer program for remediation of elementary school students in literacy skills. The interview includes discussion of her work and living experiences in three countries of service.Interview Accession
