Interview Summary
Dr. Flora Johnson talks about her experiences coming to the United States from China, attending Berea College and the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and becoming a physician. She was one of 14 women in a class of 75 students. Johnson was once told by a counselor that she shouldn’t apply to medical school because she was a woman, poor, and Chinese. She also had trouble with hearing loss. Johnson talks about her childhood memories, college and medical school years, and balancing professional and family life. Dr. Johnson was still working at the time of the interview. Dr. Johnson was board-certified in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Her practice is in Claremont, California.Interview Accession
