Interview Summary
Allissa Johnson, 29 years old, describes her move from a cabin in Red River Gorge to Elkhorn City. Johnson talks about recreation in the river. She is an avid kayaker. She talks about the entertainment in Elkhorn City like ATVS, hiking, and biking. She also discusses the impact of the dam on the rivers. Johnson talks about Elkhorn City transitioning into a tourist town. She talks about the task force plan which includes students from EKU and Amy Brashears who have been trying to transition Elkhorn City's economy. Johnson and her friends started a music festival in Elkhorn City but were forced to move it to Pine Mountain the following year because of resistance in the town. She says that there is a divide in the town on the opinion of coal. Johnson describes her hopes and dreams for the future of Elkhorn City.Interview Accession
