Interview Summary

The Babbs discuss their personal histories--their educations, work experiences, and how they both began work with solid waste in McCreary County. L. Babb also describes in detail how the solid waste system works in McCreary County, and how many citizens are involved in the program. They describe how they both became aware of PRIDE and what efforts have been made in McCreary County in regard to environmental cleanup. They discuss their first illegal dump cleanup, Tunnel Ridge, in detail and describe the impact that cleaning up the dump had on the community. The Babbs describe how the community has changed in both attitude and involvement in regard to environmental cleanup. They discuss the volunteer turnout of the county, and mention specific groups and businesses that have stood out to them. They tell stories of dump sites that they have cleaned up and explain what they think the next steps are in McCreary County, and what kind of lasting change they think PRIDE has made.
