Interview with Abu Tayeb Rafiqur Rahman, August 24, 2021
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Dr. Abu Tayeb Rafiqur Rahman, whose career in public administration and development included senior positions in academia, the United Nations, and the Canadian International Development Agency, discusses his close connections to Peace Corps volunteers beginning in the early 1960s when he was a young faculty member at the Academy for Rural Development in Comilla, East Pakistan [now Bangladesh]. He discusses how that experience influenced his career, the contributions Peace Corps Volunteers made to the Academy’s programs and to Bangladesh, including the Volunteer Association of Bangladesh (VAB), which he founded in 1999. The VAB is a charity that provides quality education for the children of poor rural people. Former Peace Corps Volunteers play significant roles in the VAB as board members, donors, and supporters of its activities. The interview is conducted by Florence "Kiki" McCarthy, who served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in East Pakistan from 1961-1963.Interview Accession
