Interview Summary
Mr. McDonald graduated from Dubois High School in Mt. Sterling (1936) and attended Blue Ridge College in West Virginia. A World War II Army veteran, Mr. McDonald began his dry cleaning business in Lexington in 1946 and owned and operated McDonald's Dry Cleaners for 32 years. He discusses the beginnings of his business and other African American-owned businesses at the time. The role of the African American church in promoting minority owned businesses in Lexington is mentioned, as well as the decline of the African American business community in Lexington.Interview Accession
