Interview Summary
Ron W. Shipe, a former employee of the TVA, begins the interview by discussing how he was hired at the TVA. Next, Shipe lists the positions he held at the TVA during his career. Shipe's work in microfilming documents is discussed. Shipe then describes his role in implementing the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA). The interviewee's time spent working in industrial training is considered. TVA's evolution in economic development initiatives is examined. Shipe talks of the working relationship between state governments and the TVA in orchestrating industrial training programs. Indicators that the TVA used to determine industry expansion are also mentioned. Subsequently, Shipe's work in educational technology at the TVA, including the School of the Future and a career exploration movie for middle school students is detailed. Recognition for the School of the Future is discussed. Shipe outlines what led to his decision to move to environmental compliance training. Shipe's role in the program at TVA, and different types of training are recalled. Shipe concludes the interview by reflecting upon his accomplishments as a TVA employee and how well-known the programs he worked on were outside of the Tennessee Valley.Interview Accession
