Interview Summary

Larry Sizemore discusses growing up in an area called Pigeon Roost on Stinking Creek. He fondly recalls farming and rural life growing up. He describes different aspects of farming including gardening, planting hillsides in corn, canning, livestock, plowing, hunting, seed saving, and cooking. He talks about schools in the area and how people have moved out. Larry discusses changes in agriculture and outlooks for the future of agriculture in the community. He tells about the different jobs he has had and how he continues to farm and have livestock and uses many organic methods. Larry recalls his experiences with the Lend-A-Hand Center and participating in different programs through the years. He remembers the community center programs during the War on Poverty. He discusses the Stinking Creek book and media representation of the area and he considers the impact and future of the Lend-A-Hand Center. He also discusses issues, opportunities, and the future of the area.
