Interview Summary

George Reynolds graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1950. In this interview he discusses why he chose UK and his first impressions of the school. He talks about majoring in journalism, and describes the professors and classes. He talks about campus organizations, including his involvement in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He talks about meeting and marrying his wife, Mary Beth, and the quality of the places they lived after their marriage and of other facilities on campus.

Reynolds discusses the attitudes on campus during the 1940s, especially those of the soldiers returning from World War II. He talks about the social activities he engaged in on campus, and tells stories about controversial events at graduation and Homecoming parades. He talks about some of the college athletes he knew. He talks about writing several editorials that got him in trouble with university president Patterson during his time as editor of the Kentucky Kernel.
