Project Summary
Walter Darlington ("Dee") Huddleston, a Democrat, served in the United States Senate (1973-1985) and the Kentucky Senate (1965-1972). Prior to his career in public service, he was a sportscaster and broadcasting executive. In these interviews, Huddleston discusses his life and work, including his family and childhood; his service in World War II; his experiences with University of Kentucky coaches Adolph Rupp and Bear Bryant; the radio station he managed in Elizabethtown, Kentucky; his political campaigns; the issues he faced as a senator, including redistricting, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the role of intelligence agencies; and his opinions of fellow politicians such as Wendell Ford, Louie B.
