Interview Summary
Bert Francis served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. In this interview, he talks about growing up in Whitesburg, Kentucky as the son of a single mother. He did not know who his father was until later in his life. He talks about his mother's education and the many jobs she worked to support their family. He talks about his family's history in Kentucky, his childhood home environment, his education, the many dangerous recreational activities he and his friends participated in, growing and preserving food, and his awareness of world events.Interview Accession
