Interview Summary

Stephanie Ratliff describes growing up in Pikeville, Kentucky and the class divisions in the town, as well as problems such as drug abuse among the youth. She talks about growing up being creative and winning a national award for ceramics at the National Council of Education on Ceramic Arts. Her winning entry was on coal, and she discusses the divisions in her community over coal and mountaintop removal.
